MediaCAST

Through extensive discussion and feedback from BVSD teachers, tech contacts, teacher librarians, and leadership, as well as analysis of MediaCAST in BVSD, we have ended our contract with MediaCAST at the end of the 2014-15 school year. We are taking steps to make this transition as smooth as possible.

 Common Questions

Question: What service is replacing MediaCAST?

A combination of resources will help us find replacement videos for MediaCAST. First, IT will expand the capacity of our Internet pipe in the summer of 2015 to be able to stream media (video, audio) allowing for greater access to materials. Second, we are exploring the expansion of YouTube for Schools to elementary students. Finally, BVSD stakeholders will collaborate through this shared spreadsheet to add links and titles of videos to replace MediaCAST titles that teachers rely on for instruction.

Question: Who was involved in this decision?

We received feedback from stakeholder groups, including Instructional Services and Equity (ISE), teacher librarians, tech contacts, teachers, principals and staff members who were involved in a MediaCAST focus group. We also sent out a district-wide survey in Fall 2014 regarding MediaCAST usage in BVSD. The feedback we received through all of these channels helped defined the needs for streaming media in BVSD, one of which was access to content anytime, anywhere, and on any device. You can review the timeline here.

Question: What data was collected and evaluated to explore MediaCAST use in BVSD?

Question: I’m hesitant to show YouTube videos because of the related videos at the end, advertisements and other material beyond the viewers control. What can I do about advertisements and the side bar of related videos in YouTube?
You can read more about how to use YouTube in BVSD on our YouTube help site.
