In November, voters approved the passage of 3A, which allows for non-device technology upgrades throughout the Boulder Valley School District. IT will receive 3A funds to improve vital infrastructure, including:
We will replace our ageing networking switches with the latest technology, which will increase our internet bandwidth to over 1 GB. In practical terms, this means that we will be able to handle the higher demand for internet services that digital devices like Chromebooks, tablets, and laptops require. As more of our classroom tools move online, our bandwidth must expand accordingly.
We will be replacing our wired switches with the latest technology. The projected timeline will be one to three years.
Teachers and students will have the ability to use a lanyard with a microphone that will enable them to have their voices heard throughout the classroom. The projected timeline for completion of this project is one to three years.
Currently there is a pilot underway that brings BVSD internet into a Boulder Housing Partners (BHP) development. BVSD provides access to the internet and BHP installs wireless infrastructure in the buildings. Since students access BVSD’s network, the connection will be filtered and authenticated (meaning that students must use a password to get online). The goal is to expand this pilot in Boulder and other BVSD communities.
