ConnectME is a pilot program started in 2017 in Lafayette. ConnectME was developed to help address a civil rights issue of our day by systematically bringing internet into the homes of our students. We, here at BVSD, want to ensure that we are approaching this in a way that can expand throughout the district without additional cost and is sustainable over time. We are working in a public-private partnership with a company called LiveWireNet® who specializes in high speed internet over the air. In exchange for real estate access, Livewire is providing free internet at home for our students who qualify for free and reduced lunch. The ConnectME program went “live” at Sanchez Elementary last spring, and at Angevine Middle School in December. By the end of the school year, we were able to connect 32 students through LiveWireNet’s free service. Negotiations are underway to expand this to all BVSD schools - be on the lookout for more updates in the fall!
